I watched the little light dance in the trees

Floating and drifting through the limbs

So smooth and so calm, I am fixated

I follow, slow and steady

It leads me down a wooded path

Deeper than I’ve gone before

I am enveloped in the gloom of the night

The distance between us never grows

Nor do we come within reach

I wonder where it is taking me.

My feet have gone cold

The pain in my legs keeps me focused

I can hear a splash with each step

Water climbs to my waist

My eyes burn from not blinking

But I refuse to look away from the light ahead

I follow, slow and steady

The light dives below the water, and I follow

I feel its cold embrace envelop me all over

Yet the light in my sight brings me peace

I follow, sinking till I can no longer see
